Commonly referred to as the “Gateway to Lake Minnetonka,” the city of Wayzata’s name comes from a Lakota Sioux saying that translates to mean “North Shore.” Today Wayzata is a thriving small town residential community that’s home to around 3,600 Minnesotans. The arrival of the railroad system helped Wayzata thrive, attracting more residents from all over. Metro Transit provides public transportation services, including Park and Ride lots and express buses to the downtown districts of Saint Paul and Minneapolis. In 1852, two pioneer families settled in the area, and with the introduction of the railroad in 1867, the town transitioned from a lumber settlement into a resort town, and eventually into the glamorous city that Wayzata is today.
